A deep tissue specimen is submitted for culture from a patient with a suspected anaerobic infection. The laboratory discovers that the specimen was transported in a container that did not maintain anaerobic conditions and experienced a prolonged delay before arrival. What is the most appropriate next step?
A: Incorrect. The tissue source does not eliminate the need for organism-appropriate transport. Anaerobic organisms may lose viability when transport conditions are unsuitable.
B: Correct. Suspected anaerobic infections require transport conditions that preserve organism viability. Inappropriate transport combined with prolonged delay creates a substantial risk of organism loss. The laboratory should evaluate specimen acceptability and consider recollection based on the source, timing, and suspected organism.
C: Incorrect. Correcting the transport device after a prolonged delay cannot be assumed to reverse organism loss that has already occurred.
D: Incorrect. A negative culture from a compromised specimen may reflect loss of viable organisms rather than their true absence.

The guided drills were the difference. I stopped re-reading notes and started doing timed sets. My scores jumped in two weeks.
The explanations are crisp and the pacing is perfect. I used the active recall prompts every night and it stuck.
I loved the frameworks and examples. Prioritization became obvious, and the drills fixed my weak spots fast.
