An inpatient has a routine CMP order. At the bedside, the patient's wristband name matches the requisition, but the medical record number is different. The nurse says, “Draw it anyway; I know him, and you can use his PICC if the vein is hard.” What is the safest scope-appropriate action for the phlebotomy technician?
A is correct. A mismatched identifier creates a high-risk preanalytical error; collection must stop until identity is resolved per policy. C is unsafe because verbal recognition does not replace required identifiers. D may be appropriate only for authorized personnel under local policy; central-line access is outside routine phlebotomy scope for many entry-level technicians and does not fix the ID problem. B is tempting because urgency matters clinically, but the phlebotomist should not interpret urgency or override identification rules. Notify the nurse, supervisor, or laboratory as required and document according to procedure.

The explanations are crisp and the pacing is perfect. I used the active recall prompts every night and it stuck.
I loved the frameworks and examples. Prioritization became obvious, and the drills fixed my weak spots fast.
