A 46-year-old woman presents with 3 weeks of right ear pain. Otoscopy shows a normal auricle, external auditory canal, and intact tympanic membrane. Hearing is unchanged. Pain worsens with chewing, and palpation over the right temporomandibular joint reproduces the otalgia. Which nerve most directly explains referred pain to the anterior external auditory canal in this patient?
TMJ disease can refer pain to the anterior external auditory canal through the auriculotemporal nerve, a V3 branch; the normal otoscopy and chewing-provoked pain discriminate it. A is tempting for auricular pain, but C2-C3 supplies lobule/inferior auricle, not TMJ. A may cause cough or conchal/posterior canal symptoms, not chewing-related TMJ pain. A carries middle ear sensation via Jacobson nerve and is implicated in otitis media or oropharyngeal referred pain, not anterior canal/TMJ linkage.

Learners
What MedExPrep learners say about the platform (reviews across all exams, not only ENT).
The guided drills were the difference. I stopped re-reading notes and started doing timed sets. My scores jumped in two weeks.
The explanations are crisp and the pacing is perfect. I used the active recall prompts every night and it stuck.
I loved the frameworks and examples. Prioritization became obvious, and the drills fixed my weak spots fast.
