C Exam trap

Common wrong answer: Attribute current symptoms to a known benign prior diagnosis. Why it is tempting: Familiar diagnoses such as panic, GERD, or IBS can explain some symptoms. Single clue that eliminates it: An objective high-risk finding—hypoxemia, unilateral swelling, neurologic deficit, or abnormal vital sign—demands a more dangerous explanation first.
